If you prefer to use Netscape as your
browser of choice, the process for saving your favorite sites is called "Bookmarking,"
and is very similar.
How To Return To Your Favorite Web
Sites
(And Not Just By Accident)
Have you ever stumbled across a really
great Web site, made a mental note to return, and then couldn't remember how you
got there the first time? If you answered yes, you're certainly not alone.
Although the instant links to other materials (hyperlinks)
facilitate easy information flow, this type of navigation also makes it very
easy to get lost.
But all is not lost, after all!
There is a very simple way to stash your favorite Web addresses for future
reference. If you're using Internet Explorer as your
browser of choice, your favorites are called . . . Favorites!
Let's say that one of your favorite
places to go is The
PC Help Desk. Follow these instructions to make it a Favorite.
Once you are on the page you want to
remember, go to the top of the page, and click once on Favorites.

This click will bring
up a menu that offers several options. Now click on Add to
Favorites.

You will now see this box:
At this point, click OK
and The PC Help Desk Page will automatically be added to the end of your
Favorites list. If you only plan to save a few favorites here and there,
you're all set! However, as you become more comfortable with browsing the
Web, hopefully you will find hundreds of Favorites! In this case, it
becomes necessary to organize your Favorites into folders. Here's how:
As shown in the screen shot above,
click on the Create in >> button. You will then be
given the choice to either put the new Favorite into an existing folder by
clicking on the folder, and then clicking, OK, or creating a new folder.
Let's create a folder to store a website in! Click on New
Folder....

You will now be given the chance to
name your folder. Click in the white box and type the name of your new
Favorites folder. Then click on OK.

There! You have now created a new
folder in your Favorites list
So how do you get
back to that folder the next time you want to visit The PC Help Desk website?
Simply click on Favorites at the top of your screen, point to the Gunnison
folder, and then select the site!
The latest versions of the Internet
Explorer offers a feature that allows you to "subscribe" to a Web
page. You can use this feature to have Internet Explorer check your
favorite Web sites for new content, according to the schedule you specify.
This option can be selected at the point where you Add to Favorites.... |
